Equivalent StandardsHastelloy® N (Alloy N / UNS N10003) matches multiple international specifications:
Fabrication & Heat Treatment PropertiesMachinabilityHastelloy® N can be machined with conventional methods applied to ferrous alloys. Commercial coolants are required for general machining. Water-based coolants are recommended for high-speed processes including grinding, milling and turning. Heavy lubricants are essential for tapping, drilling, boring and broaching operations. Forming & Welding This alloy is formable via standard metal forming techniques. Suitable welding processes include GTAW, GMAW and SMAW. Submerged arc welding is not recommended for Hastelloy® N. Heat Treatment & Cold Working Hastelloy® N cannot be hardened by thermal treatment; hardening is achieved solely through cold working. Soft die materials like zinc alloy and bronze are adopted in cold forming to achieve smooth surface finish and avoid galling. Intermediate annealing can be arranged during cold forming cycles. Annealing is carried out at 1177°C (2150°F), followed by controlled cooling. ApplicationsHastelloy® N is widely selected for chemical processing equipment and general industrial components that demand superior high-temperature oxidation resistance. ZYTC Alloy provides custom sizes, cutting, forging and machining services for Hastelloy® N bars, rings and forgings. All products comply with AMS 5771 and related ASTM standards.
