2. Operating Conditions & Selection Guidelines

  • Primary Function: Specifically engineered as a filler metal for joining dissimilar superalloys and heat-resistant materials. Not typically selected for base metal applications where other Hastelloy grades offer more optimized corrosion resistance

  • Critical Advantage: Excellent compatibility with various high-temperature alloys during welding. Developed to address the challenges of joining dissimilar materials in critical service

  • Temperature Range: Suitable for high-temperature service typical of gas turbines and aerospace applications. Properties maintained across operating temperature ranges

  • Common Applications: Welding filler metal for dissimilar superalloy joints, gas turbine component fabrication, aerospace engine and structural part assembly, chemical processing equipment repairs, industrial furnace fixtures, and heat treatment setups

3. Fabrication & Material Comparison

  • Heat Treatment: Does not respond to precipitation hardening. Used in solution-annealed condition for optimal properties. Standard annealing at 1185°C (2165°F) for 15 minutes followed by rapid water quenching ensures homogeneous microstructure

  • Welding Capabilities: Weldable using GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, and SMAW methods. Specifically formulated for excellent weldability when joining dissimilar alloys. Preferred filler metal for many high-temperature superalloy combinations

  • Forming Characteristics: Good formability in solution-annealed condition. Compatible with standard fabrication methods

  • Machining: Machinable using conventional techniques appropriate for nickel-based alloys

  • Versus Other Filler Metals: Specifically optimized for dissimilar joints where coefficient of thermal expansion differences and metallurgical compatibility are concerns. Offers better performance than standard nickel fillers for certain superalloy combinations

  • Versus C-276: Higher molybdenum content (24% vs. 16%) and different balance optimized for welding characteristics rather than broad corrosion resistance

  • Product Forms: Available as weld wire, filler rods, wrought bars, and custom forms for welding applications
