Alloy 75 (UNS N06075 / 2.4630) is a solution-strengthened nickel-chromium alloy with controlled titanium and carbon additions, designed for applications requiring good oxidation resistance and moderate strength up to 650°C (1202°F). As the foundational grade in the Nimonic family, it offers excellent fabricability and thermal stability, making it a cost-effective choice for aerospace fasteners, gas turbine components, and industrial furnace hardware .

2. Operating Conditions & Selection CriteriaAlloy 75 (UNS N06075 / 2.4630) is specified for applications requiring a balance of oxidation resistance, moderate strength, and excellent fabricability at temperatures where standard stainless steels are inadequate but where the higher strength of age-hardenable alloys is unnecessary. Service Temperature Range: Optimized for continuous operation up to 650°C (1200°F) for load-bearing applications; oxidation resistance remains effective up to 1100°C for non-stressed components . Oxidation Performance: Forms adherent Cr₂O₃ scale that resists spalling under thermal cycling. Titanium addition improves oxide adhesion and creep resistance compared to simple 80-20 alloys . Creep Strength: 100-hour rupture strength at 650°C is approximately 130 MPa (18.5 ksi), adequate for low-stress applications such as shrouds, baffles, and non-rotating parts . Microstructural Stability: Single-phase austenitic structure with fine TiC and Ti(CN) precipitates; remains stable during prolonged thermal exposure without sigma phase formation . Corrosion Resistance: Good resistance to oxidizing media and combustion atmospheres; not intended for reducing acid service or severe aqueous corrosion . Stress Relief: Requires annealing after cold working to prevent stress-relief cracking during subsequent thermal exposure .
3. Fabrication & Material ComparisonNimonic® 75 is specifically valued for its ease of fabrication, particularly in sheet metal form, where its ductility and weldability enable complex geometries without specialized equipment. Machining: Work-hardens during cutting; machinability rating approximately 50% of B1112 steel. Carbide tooling recommended with positive rake angles and rigid setups. Water-based coolants for high-speed operations; heavy lubricants for tapping and drilling . Welding: Good weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and MMA (stick) processes. Matching filler metal (Nimonic 75 welding wire) required. Material must be in annealed condition prior to welding to prevent cracking. Pre-weld cleaning essential; post-weld stress relief not typically required . Forming & Heat Treatment: Hot Working Range: 950-1220°C (1740-2230°F) Forging Range: 982-1204°C (1800-2200°F) Annealing: 1051°C (1925°F), air cool; relieves stresses and restores optimal microstructure Cold Working: Good ductility permits forming; intermediate anneals required for severe deformation
Applications Aerospace: High-temperature fasteners (bolts, nuts, screws), combustion components, turbine shrouds, engine seals Gas Turbine Engineering: Sheet metal fabrications for hot section components Industrial Furnace Components: Structural supports, baskets, trays, radiant tubes, muffles Heat Treatment Equipment: Sintering furnace fixtures, thermocouple sheaths Nuclear Engineering: Components requiring stability and corrosion resistance General Engineering: Springs, bellows, and high-temperature instrumentation
