CD4MCuN is a cast duplex stainless steel (austenitic-ferritic) with controlled nitrogen addition, offering approximately twice the yield strength of conventional austenitic grades. With 25% chromium, 5% nickel, 2% molybdenum, and 3% copper, this alloy provides exceptional resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion. It is the cast equivalent of wrought super duplex grades like Ferralium 255, widely specified for pumps, valves, and marine components requiring high strength and corrosion resistance .

2. Fabrication & Material ComparisonHeat Treatment: Solution anneal at 1120°C (2050°F) followed by water quenching; eliminates carbide precipitates and optimizes phase balance . Age Hardening: Optional aging at 480-510°C (900-950°F) can increase hardness through precipitation hardening, though solution-annealed condition sufficient for most applications . Machining: Higher cutting forces than austenitic grades; requires rigid setups, sharp tools, and adequate coolant . Material Comparison: vs. 316L Stainless: Twice the yield strength; superior chloride SCC and pitting resistance . vs. Duplex 2205: Comparable strength; CD4MCuN offers better acid resistance due to copper addition . vs. Ferralium 255: Cast equivalent of wrought super duplex; similar corrosion performance .
3. ApplicationsPumps & Valves: Pump casings, impellers, valve bodies, trim for chemical and marine service Marine & Offshore: Seawater piping systems, subsea components, offshore platform hardware Chemical Processing: Reactor vessels, agitators, centrifuges, heat exchangers Pulp & Paper: Digesters, bleach washers, dewatering equipment Water Treatment: Desalination plants, waste water treatment components Power Generation: FGD systems, scrubber components
