AMS 5891 – NICKEL ALLOY, CORROSION AND HEAT RESISTANT, BARS, FORGINGS, AND RINGS – 60Ni – 22Cr – 2.0Mo – 14W – 0.35Al – 0.03La – Annealed. AMS 5891 specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form of bars, forgings, flash welded rings, and stock for forging, flash welded rings, or heading. Alloy 230 (Haynes® 230 / UNS N06230 / Werkstoff 2.4733) is a nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum alloy that combines excellent high-temperature strength, outstanding resistance to oxidizing environments up to 2100°F (1149°C) for prolonged exposures, premier resistance to nitriding environments, and excellent long-term thermal stability. It is readily fabricated and formed, and is castable. Fabrication Solution Annealing: 1177-1246°C (2150-2275°F), rapid cooling (water quench or accelerated air cool) Hot Working: 1177-1232°C (2150-2250°F); reheat as necessary Cold Working: Good formability in annealed condition Machining: Similar to other nickel-base alloys; requires rigid setups, sharp tools, and adequate coolant Welding: Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and resistance welding; matching filler metal recommended Castable: Alloy 230 can also be cast for complex component geometries
