AMS 5755E – Nickel Alloy, Corrosion and Heat Resistant, Bars, Forgings, and Rings – 64Ni – 5.0Cr – 24.5Mo – 5.5Fe – Solution Heat Treated.

AMS 5755E specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form of bars, forgings, flash welded rings, and stock for forging or flash welded rings.

Alloy W (UNS N10004) is a high-strength, high-temperature resistant, and corrosion resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. It is suitable for use at cryogenic temperatures and also for use in air up to 1300°F (704°C) . The alloy is readily worked and can be age-hardened.

Fabrication 

  • Solution Annealing: 1185°C (2165°F) × 15 min, water quench 

  • Hot Working: 982-1149°C (1800-2100°F); reheat if temperature falls below 1650°F (900°C) 

  • Forging: 1121-927°C (2050-1700°F); final reductions of 20% for open die, 10% for closed die are desired to maintain proper grain structure; finishing temperature should be in 955-927°C (1750-1700°F) range 

  • Cold Working: Can be cold worked using standard tooling; hardening achieved through cold working; use heavy-duty lubricants to minimize galling

  • Machining: Conventional methods; use heavy-duty tools and water-based coolants to manage work-hardening

  • Welding: Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and other standard methods
