AMS 5588H specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form of welded and drawn tubing.

Alloy X is a nickel-iron chromium alloy with good high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance. It provides good resistance to oxidation and carburization.

Typical applications: heat-treating equipment, industrial furnaces, and nuclear engineering.

Fabrication

Solution Annealing: 1177°C (2150°F) followed by rapid cooling (water quench); supplied in this condition
Welded & Drawn Process: Strip is roll-formed and welded, then cold drawn to final dimensions for improved mechanical properties and surface finish
Hot Working: 1093-1205°C (2000-2200°F); reheat as necessary
Cold Working: Good formability; can be bent and shaped
Machining: Good machinability using conventional methods
Welding (Fabrication): Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and resistance welding; matching filler metal (Alloy X welding wire) recommended
