AMS 5581 specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy (Alloy 625 / UNS N06625) in the form of seamless or welded tubing. Alloy 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with an addition of niobium. The addition of molybdenum acts with the niobium to stiffen the alloy matrix, providing high strength without a strengthening heat treatment.
 
The alloy resists a wide range of corrosive environments and has good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Alloy 625 is widely used in chemical processing, aerospace, marine engineering, oil & gas, pollution control equipment, and nuclear reactors.

Fabrication 

  • Annealing: 954-1038°C (1750-1900°F), water quench or rapid air cool; relieves cold work stresses .

  • Hot Working: 954-1205°C (1750-2200°F); reheat as necessary .

  • Cold Working: Good formability; can be cold drawn and bent .

  • Machining: Good machinability; requires sharp tools and adequate lubrication; work-hardening rate moderate .

  • Welding: Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and resistance welding; matching filler metal (ERNiCrMo-3) recommended .
