Operating Conditions & Selection CriteriaAlloy 825 is specified when designers require a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with excellent corrosion resistance, particularly against sulfuric acid and chloride-induced attack. Service Temperature Range: Mechanical properties are relatively constant from very low temperatures (cryogenic, down to -150°C) up to 540°C (1000°F). Above this temperature, there is the possibility of undesirable microstructural phase changes that significantly reduce impact toughness and elongation. Corrosion Resistance: Outstandingly excellent compared to conventional chrome-nickel-molybdenum steel. The resistance to chloride-induced intergranular corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking is the main application property of this material. Sulfuric Acid Resistance: The alloy was primarily developed to better resist sulfuric acid. Non-Magnetic: Non-magnetic properties make it suitable for downhole tooling applications. Weldability: Alloy 825 is easy to weld. Steels 2.4621 and 2.4831 are recommended as filler metals.
