Alloy C22 (Hastelloy C-22 / UNS N06022 / Werkstoff 2.4602) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy developed for exceptional resistance to localized corrosion (pitting and crevice corrosion) and excellent performance against stress corrosion cracking in highly aggressive environments.
 
Thanks to its balanced alloying concept, Alloy C22 performs well in both oxidizing and reducing media and is frequently selected for mixed-acid environments where many conventional materials show limited reliability.

 Operating Conditions & Selection Criteria

Alloy C22 is specified when designers require a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with exceptional resistance to localized corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in highly aggressive mixed-acid environments.

  • Service Temperature Range: Suitable for applications up to 315°C (600°F) in corrosive service; higher temperatures for non-corrosive service

  • Corrosion Resistance: Outstanding performance in both oxidizing and reducing media — balanced alloying concept provides versatility

  • Oxidizing Conditions: High chromium content (20.0-22.5%) provides strong resistance

  • Reducing Acids: Molybdenum (12.5-14.5%) and tungsten (2.5-3.5%) enhance resistance

  • Pitting & Crevice Corrosion: Exceptional resistance in acid/halide environments

  • Stress Corrosion Cracking: Excellent resistance to chloride-induced SCC

  • Mixed-Acid Environments: Preferred choice where corrosion mechanisms vary within one process
