ASTM B865 specification covers UNS N05500 (Monel K-500) nickel-copper-aluminum alloy in the form of rounds, squares, hexagons, rectangles, forgings, forging stock, and cold-worked wire. This precipitation-hardenable alloy combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with significantly higher strength and hardness, achieved through the addition of aluminum and titanium followed by controlled heat treatment. Monel K-500 is the material of choice for pump shafts, valve stems, marine propeller shafts, oil well tools, fasteners, and springs requiring both high mechanical strength and outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater and chemical environments.
