Operating Conditions & Selection CriteriaAlloy 400 forgings are specified when designers require a nickel-copper alloy with excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in seawater, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and reducing chemical environments. Service Temperature Range: Suitable for continuous operation from cryogenic temperatures up to 538°C (1000°F); retains excellent mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures Corrosion Resistance: Outstanding resistance to seawater, salt solutions, hydrofluoric acid (all concentrations up to boiling point), and non-oxidizing acids Chloride SCC Resistance: Excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking; no susceptibility in most environments Thermal Properties: Good thermal conductivity and low electrical resistivity Magnetic Properties: Slightly magnetic at room temperature; Curie temperature range 21-49°C Fabricability: Easy to form and fabricate with no additional heat treatment requirements in annealed condition
