AMS5660N specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel-iron alloy in the form of bars and forgings up to 5 inches (127 mm) in nominal diameter and forging stock of any size. Alloy 901 (Incoloy® 901 / UNS N09901) is an age-hardenable nickel-iron-chromium superalloy containing titanium and aluminum for precipitation hardening and molybdenum for solid-solution strengthening .
 
This alloy has high yield strength and excellent creep resistance at temperatures up to approximately 600°C (1110°F)

Specifications & Available

Alloy 901 is produced using consumable electrode remelting or vacuum induction melting (VIM), often followed by vacuum arc remelting (VAR) or electroslag remelting (ESR) to ensure high purity and metallurgical homogeneity .

Fabrication 

  • Solution Annealing: 1080-1107°C (1975-2025°F), water quench 

  • Stabilization: 760-802°C (1400-1475°F) × 2-4 hours, air cool 

  • Aging: 704-746°C (1300-1375°F) × 24 hours, air cool 

  • Hot Working: Forging requires careful process control to avoid directional properties; proper parameter selection eliminates notch sensitivity 

  • Machining: Good machinability in solution-annealed condition; carbide tooling recommended

  • Welding: Good weldability using GTAW (TIG); matching filler metal recommended


Applications 

  • Gas Turbine Engine Components: Turbine discs, compressor discs, shaft rings, casings, and seals operating at temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F)

  • Aircraft Engine Parts: Rotating components requiring high yield strength and creep resistance

  • Fasteners: High-strength bolts and studs for elevated temperature service
