AMS 5597 specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy (Alloy 718 / UNS N07718) in the form of sheet, strip, and plate from 0.010 to 1.000 inch (0.25 to 25.40 mm) in thickness. Alloy 718 is a nickel-chromium alloy that can be heat treated to give high strength and good corrosion resistance while being readily fabricated into complex parts with very good resistance to post-weld cracking. This non-magnetic alloy maintains superior resistance to corrosion, oxidation, creep, and stress rupture at elevated temperatures. Inconel 718 delivers reliable performance with high strength and excellent ductility up to 704°C (1300°F) and provides oxidation resistance up to 982°C (1800°F), making it a top choice for critical aerospace, energy, and high-temperature industrial applications .

Fabrication Solution Annealing: 954-982°C (1750-1800°F) × 1 hour, air cool or faster . Precipitation Hardening: 718-732°C (1325-1350°F) × 8 hours, furnace cool to 621°C (1150°F) × 8-18 hours, air cool . Forming: Excellent formability in solution annealed condition; can be deep drawn, stamped, and bent . Machining: Good machinability in solution annealed condition; more difficult in aged condition . Welding: Excellent weldability with very good resistance to post-weld cracking; matching filler metal (AMS 5832) recommended .
