Fabrication

  • Heat Treatment:

    • Annealing: 982°C (1800°F) with rapid cooling

    • Age Hardening: 760°C (1400°F) followed by furnace cooling to 621°C (1150°F)

  • Machining: Conventional techniques for iron-based alloys; water-based coolants for high-speed operations (milling, grinding, turning); heavy lubricants for boring, broaching, tapping, drilling

  • Forming: Conventional methods; cold forming with heavy-duty lubricants

  • Welding: Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG), shielded metal-arc welding (SMAW), metal-arc welding, submerged-arc welding; matching filler metal required

  • Cold Working: Standard tooling methods; plain carbon steels not preferred (risk of galling); soft die materials recommended to minimize galling

Applications

  • Gas Turbine Structural Components: Turbine section frames, engine casings, support structures, mounting brackets

  • High-Temperature Sheet Metal Fabrications: Complex formed components for turbine sections

  • Aerospace Structural Parts: Aircraft engine components requiring high-temperature strength

  • Industrial Gas Turbines: Stationary power generation turbine components

  • Heat-Treated Components: Age-hardened parts requiring good strength at elevated temperatures
