Zeron 100 (UNS S32760 / 1.4501) is a super duplex stainless steel with a balanced 50-50 austenitic-ferritic microstructure . It contains approximately 25% chromium, 7% nickel, 3.6% molybdenum, plus copper (0.5-1.0%) and tungsten (0.5-1.0%) additions . Originally developed as a cast seawater-resistant material for North Sea pump applications, its exceptional performance led to the development of wrought product forms . With a minimum PREn (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) of 40, Zeron 100 offers yield strength twice that of 300 series austenitic stainless steels (≥550 MPa / 80 ksi) .

2. Fabrication & Material ComparisonHeat Treatment: Solution anneal at 1100-1140°C (2012-2084°F), water quench; essential to maintain phase balance (50-50 austenite-ferrite) and prevent sigma phase formation . Welding: Good weldability using GTAW (TIG) with matching Zeron 100X filler metal; low heat input required; preheating not required; post-weld heat treatment not necessary . Forming: Higher strength requires more powerful equipment than austenitic grades; formability slightly lower than 2507 due to higher alloy content . Machining: Higher cutting forces than standard duplex; requires rigid setups, sharp tools, and adequate coolant .
