Alloy L605 (UNS R30605) is a cobalt-chromium-tungsten-nickel superalloy offering exceptional high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and fabricability up to 1093°C (2000°F). As a solid-solution-strengthened alloy, it combines excellent mechanical properties with good weldability and formability, making it a preferred material for gas turbine combustion hardware, industrial furnace components, and medical devices requiring biocompatibility and corrosion resistance .
1. Product Specifications & Physical Data
ZYTC Alloy supplies UNS R30605 in comprehensive mill forms for aerospace, industrial, and medical applications requiring verified high-temperature properties and complete material traceability.
Available Forms: Bar (rounds), billet, rod, wire, sheet, strip, foil, forging stock, and welding wire .
Udimet® L605 offers good fabricability with proper techniques, though its cobalt base requires specific processing parameters.
Solution Annealing: 1175-1230°C (2150-2250°F), rapid air or water quench .
Hot Working: 1037-1260°C (1900-2300°F); reheat as necessary .
Cold Working: Good formability in annealed condition; can be bent, deep drawn, and spun. Rapid work-hardening rate requires intermediate annealing for complex shapes .
Machining: Conventional techniques applicable; rigid setups and positive rake-angle tools recommended for optimal results .
Welding: Readily welded using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW processes. Surface must be clean and free of contaminants .
Material Comparison:
vs. Haynes 188: Similar cobalt base; L605 has higher tungsten, no lanthanum; both excellent for high-temperature service .
vs. Inconel 625: Higher temperature capability; higher density; cobalt vs. nickel base .
vs. MP35N: L605 optimized for high-temperature service; MP35N for ultra-high-strength at lower temperatures .
vs. Stellite 6B: Wrought vs. cast form; L605 offers better fabricability for sheet metal components .
Chemical Processing: Nitric acid production equipment, corrosion-resistant hardware
Medical Devices: Implantable devices, surgical instruments (biocompatible, non-magnetic)
General Engineering: Wear pads, high-temperature fasteners, springs
