2. Fabrication & Material Comparison

The wrought structure of Alloy 6B provides significant advantages over cast Alloy 6 in toughness, weldability, and corrosion resistance .

  • Forming & Workability: Sheets can be formed and/or welded with minimal heat input. Can be fabricated to cover high-wear areas efficiently .

  • Welding: Excellent weldability due to wrought microstructure; can be attached to shafts and components with minimal heat input to avoid distortion .

  • Machining: Can be machined with carbide tooling; supplied in solution-treated condition (AMS 5894) with inherent wear properties, minimizing post-machining heat treatment .

3. Applications

  • Valves & Pumps: Valve stems, seats, pump plungers, bushings, sleeves for chemical processing, oil & gas, power generation

  • Aerospace: Turbine blades, steam turbine erosion shields, fan blades, bearings, wear plates

  • Industrial: Furnace fan blades, chain saw guide bars, extruder screws, forming dies, hot extrusion tooling

  • Food Processing: Equipment requiring corrosion and wear resistance in food handling environments

  • Mining & Mineral Processing: Wear liners, screw conveyor flights, seals for abrasive media

  • Steel & Metallurgy: Galvanizing roll necks, continuous casting components, scrapers
