Alloy 1 (UNS R30001) is a cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy engineered for extreme wear resistance, high hardness (50-58 HRC), and excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. With high carbon (2-3%) and tungsten (11-13%) content, it provides superior resistance to metal-to-metal wear, galling, erosion, and thermal fatigue. This alloy is primarily used for hard-facing and CNC-machined components in valve seats, pump plungers, and cutting tools .

 2. Fabrication & Material Comparison

  • Machining: Difficult to machine due to high hardness; typically finished by grinding. CNC machining possible with carbide or ceramic tooling .

  • Welding: Can be applied as hard-facing using various thermal spray and welding techniques .

  • Material Comparison:

    • vs. Stellite 6: Higher hardness and wear resistance; lower toughness .

    • vs. Stellite 12: Intermediate properties between 1 and 6 .

3. Applications

  • Valve Industry: Seats, stems, and cages for steam, petrochemical, and nuclear valves

  • Oil & Gas: Drill bit components, flow restrictors, erosion-resistant nozzles

  • Aerospace: Turbine shrouds, vanes, wear pads for jet engines (800-1000°C)

  • Industrial: Pump plungers, cutting tools, bearings for corrosive/abrasive environments
