AMS 5504 specification covers a corrosion- and moderate heat-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate over 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) in nominal thickness.

410 stainless steel sheet is a basic hardenable martensitic stainless steel and is well suited for use in highly stressed parts where properties such as corrosion resistance, good strength and ductility are required. 410 is used for steam / gas turbine blades and buckets, bushings, valve components, fasteners, nuclear reactor control rod mechanisms, petrochemical equipment and machine parts.

Resisitance to oxidation and corrosion - Alloy 410 exhibits good corrosion resistance to atmospheric corrosion, potable water, food acids and to mildly corrosive chemical environments because of its ability to form a tightly adherent oxide film which protects the surfaces from further attack.
