Alloy 706, also known as Inconel 706 and designated UNS N09706, is a premium precipitation-hardenable nickel-iron-chromium superalloy engineered for high strength paired with excellent fabricability. Its mechanical performance is comparable to Alloy 718, yet Alloy 706 is much easier to form, machine and weld, making it a preferred choice for manufacturing complex gas turbine parts. This alloy is widely specified for critical components used in aerospace engines and land-based gas turbine systems.

As an experienced Chinese nickel superalloy manufacturer, ZYTC Alloy supplies high-quality Alloy 706 round bar and forging stock for gas turbine OEMs and engineering contractors around the globe. Our materials strictly comply with related aerospace specifications and can be customized to meet project-specific heat treatment and dimensional requirements.

    Fabrication and Heat Treatment Guidance

    Machinability

Inconel 706 can be machined with conventional machine tools used for iron-based alloys. General machining work uses standard commercial coolants. Water-based coolants are required for high-speed machining operations, including turning, milling and grinding, to protect cutting tools and ensure smooth surface finish.

    Forming

Inconel 706 can be formed by all conventional metal forming techniques, both hot and cold.

    Welding

Multiple mature welding processes are suitable for Inconel 706, including gas-tungsten arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding, submerged-arc welding, and gas metal-arc welding.

    Heat Treatment

The standard annealing process for Inconel 706 is performed at 927 to 1010°C (1700 to 1850°F), followed by controlled cooling. The alloy achieves higher strength via precipitation hardening heat treatment.

    Forging

Recommended forging temperature range for Inconel 706 is 983 to 1149°C (1800 to 2100°F).

    Hot Working

Hot working operations can be carried out between 872 to 1149°C (1600 to 2100°F).

    Cold Working

Cold working of Inconel 706 can be completed with standard tooling.

    Applications

Alloy 706 is the reliable material of choice for core gas turbine components. Common parts include turbine shafts, engine casings, turbine discs and high-strength fasteners for both aerospace and land-based gas turbine equipment.
