Ti 6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) is the extra-low interstitial version of the standard Ti 6Al-4V alloy. Produced through careful selection of ingot raw materials with reduced limits on iron, carbon, and oxygen, this high-purity alloy offers superior damage tolerance, enhanced fracture toughness, and better fatigue crack growth resistance compared to standard grade. Its excellent biocompatibility, good fatigue strength, and low modulus have made it the material of choice for surgical implants, dental devices, cryogenic vessels, and aerospace structural components.

2. Fabrication & Material ComparisonAnnealing: 704-760°C (1300-1400°F) × 0.25-4 hours, furnace cool to 566°C (1050°F), then air cool . Solution Treatment: 904-954°C (1660-1750°F) × 2 hours, water quench . Aging: 538°C (1000°F) × 4 hours, air cool . Hot Forging: Rough forge at 982°C (1800°F), finish at 968°C (1750°F) . Cold Working: Similar to austenitic stainless steel; post-work annealing recommended to restore properties . Machining: Requires slow speeds, high feed rates, and adequate coolant flow; tungsten carbide (C1-C4) or cobalt-based tools recommended . Welding: Fair weldability; requires careful process control and inert gas shielding . Forming: Can be hot or cold formed using hydropress, stretch, or drop-hammer techniques .
