Titanium Grade 12 (UNS R53400 / 3.7105) is a near-alpha titanium alloy containing 0.3% molybdenum and 0.8% nickel. Unlike commercially pure titanium grades (Grades 1-4), the addition of these alloying elements provides improved strength and enhanced corrosion resistance, particularly in reducing acid environments and hot brine service. While its corrosion resistance is not as exceptional as Grade 7 (palladium-alloyed titanium), Grade 12 offers a significantly more cost-effective alternative, making it the preferred choice for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and chemical processing equipment where high performance is required at a reasonable cost.

| Machining | Use slow speeds, high coolant flow, and high feed rates. Tungsten carbide tools (C1-C4) or cobalt-based tools recommended. | | Forging | Rough forge at 871°C (1600°F); finish at 788-843°C (1450-1550°F). | | Annealing | 732-816°C (1350-1500°F) × 2 hours, air cool. Stress relieving: 538-649°C (1000-1200°F) × 1 hour. | | Forming | Can be hot or cold formed. Cold working features similar to austenitic stainless steel. | | Welding | Rated as excellent. |
