ASTM F1586 specifies high-nitrogen chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel (1.4472) produced by Pressurized Electro-Slag Remelting (PESR) for surgical implants. This alloy offers high toughness, excellent pitting resistance, near-zero delta-ferrite, and outstanding fatigue resistance, making it ideal for bone surgery, internal fixation devices, and endoprostheses .
