ASTM A269 316L Welded Capillary Tube: Precision Stainless Tubing for Critical Applications

For instrumentation, chromatography, medical devices, and chemical injection systems, tubing quality defines system reliability. ASTM A269 316L welded capillary tubing combines the molybdenum-enhanced corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel with the precision dimensional control of welded-and-drawn manufacturing.
Why 316L Stainless Steel?
316L (UNS S31603) adds 2–3% molybdenum to the standard 304L chemistry, providing superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. Its low carbon content (0.030% max) prevents intergranular corrosion after welding. These properties make it the material of choice for saline, chemical, and high-purity fluid handling applications.
The ASTM A269 Standard
ASTM A269 governs welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for corrosion-resistant service. It mandates tighter dimensional tolerances, mechanical testing, and surface quality requirements than structural tube specifications — ensuring suitability for pressure containment and precision fluid transport.
