AMS 5653 / 316L Stainless Steel Bar

– Low-Carbon Austenitic Alloy for Corrosive & High-Temperature Service

AMS 5653 specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel (316L / UNS S31603) in the form of bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash-welded rings, and stock for forging or flash-welded rings. 316L is the low-carbon version of the classic 316 stainless steel, offering enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding or exposure to elevated temperatures.

As a professional Chinese stainless steel supplier, ZYTC Alloy provides certified AMS 5653 316L bar, wire, forgings, and tubing with full material traceability and EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 inspection certificates.

Heat Treatment

316L is supplied in the solution heat treated (annealed) condition per AMS 5653 requirements. The solution annealing process involves heating to approximately 1900°F (1038°C) followed by rapid cooling. Unlike ferritic or martensitic stainless steels, 316L cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Its mechanical properties are achieved through cold working.

Typical Applications

  • Aerospace & Defense Aircraft fasteners, structural fittings, hydraulic system components, mounting brackets and welded assemblies that withstand high‑humidity and salt‑spray operating conditions.
  • Chemical & Industrial Processing Pump shafts, valve bodies, heat‑exchanger hardware, piping and fitting components exposed to acids, corrosive process fluids and aggressive chemical media.
  • Marine & Offshore Propeller shaft components, marine hardware and offshore platform equipment with excellent tolerance for seawater and chloride‑rich environments.
  • Medical & Pharmaceutical Surgical instrument parts, medical device components, food‑grade and pharmaceutical processing equipment requiring high purity and reliable biocompatibility.
  • High‑Temperature Service Furnace hardware, heat‑treatment fixtures and exhaust‑system components needing dependable oxidation resistance under elevated‑temperature cycles.

Every production batch from ZYTC Alloy undergoes strict quality inspection with complete material traceability, mill test reports and certification aligned with AMS 5653 requirements. Whether you need standard stocked sizes or custom‑fabricated semi‑finished parts, our technical specialists offer grade‑selection support for your operating temperature, corrosion environment and mechanical property targets.
