AMS 5519 specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel (301 Full Hard / UNS S30100) in the form of sheet and strip 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and over in nominal thickness . 301 Full Hard is an austenitic stainless steel that has been cold rolled to its full hard condition, maximizing strength and hardness through strain-induced martensite transformation.

This temper offers a minimum tensile strength of 185 ksi (1,276 MPa) and a minimum yield strength of 140 ksi (965 MPa), making it one of the strongest commercially available austenitic stainless steels.

Fabrication & Processing

Cutting: Laser cutting (cleanest, fastest), waterjet cutting (no heat-affected zone), or shearing (only for thinner gauges; high tonnage required).
Machining: Challenging due to hardness and tendency to work-harden; use sharp carbide tooling, high feeds, moderate speeds, avoid dwelling, and use coolant to control heat and reduce galling.
Welding: Possible but not recommended for critical corrosion-resistant applications; use low-heat input processes; expect loss of full hard properties near the weld; consider post-weld pickling or passivation.
Surface Finishing: Often supplied with a bright finish; responds well to mechanical polishing, light brushing, and passivation to restore the chromium oxide layer after fabrication.

Delivery Conditions

The conditions are achieved by cold working the metal and include Condition A (Annealed) (AMS 5901), quarter hard (AMS 5517), half hard (AMS 5518) and hard (AMS 5519).
